My Amazing French Learning Journey

Learning a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world. After my English milestone in Canada, I have decided to stay and work in this bilanguage country where English and French are official languages. To be competitive among job applicants, speaking French definitely polishes my resume, helps advance my career and opens a wide range of professional opportunities.

AmazingTalker provides a platform for those language learners, and the platform gives me a chance to meet my French teacher, Michelle. Among a lot of French teachers from all over the world, Michelle stands out to be mine because of her personal characteristics and teaching styles.

To begin with, Michelle is a teacher who comes with her fascinate personalities that she is motivated, patient and knowledgeable. Before purchasing a set of course, I discussed my goals and expectations with Michelle in my trail lesson. In the lesson, she showed her passion about French and made me feel that my French learning journey would be fun, and I was right. I have enjoyed taking French lessons with her that she encourages me to speak out and use her sense of humour to boost my interests in learning French. Although there are times when my brain stops functioning in a class, she patiently helps and assists me to complete sentences or pronunciations. Whenever I have questions, she always answered immediately. Also, Michelle is very knowledgeable since she can speak multi-languages; for example, she sometimes comes up with stories behind words and demonstrates the connections between French and other languages.

In addition to Michelle’s personalities, her teaching styles are important keys of my French journey that she is a strong communicator to engage students in lesson, an effective interpreter to explain French, an adaptive lecturer to value real-world learning. First of all, good teachers are engaging, and Michelle is one of them. Instead of only giving lectures behind scene, she engages with students by practicing conversations together. For instance, there are many dialogues provided through lessons, and she sometimes would use adorable stuff toys as imaginary friends for group conversation practices, which supports the gaps of one-one lesson and creates a fun learning environment. As mentioned before, Michelle is knowledgeable and good at explanations, and her word choice is explicit and practical that I know my takeaways from lessons can be applied to real daily conversations. Moreover, because I am in Canada, she does mention and distinguish the differences between France French and Quebec French. Different than teaching standard content set from textbook, Michelle’s teaching materials are various. For example, she adds useful French learning websites, video links and movie recommendations into lessons. Besides, Michelle is an effective teacher that she gives her course material involving recent events. To illustrate, I learn vaccination related vocabularies and festive greetings such as happy moon festival in different ways. This does have the benefits of seeing the practical application of what I am learning in the moment I am learning it.

Overall, I have learned a lot from Michelle, and I always look forward to taking next French lesson. It is my pleasure to have her as my teacher. Thanks for Michelle’s participation in my French learning pathway that she makes my French learning adventure much more entertaining. Hopefully, I will be able to share my story in French in the near future.
